ECMS :: Home

Almost all music making in Emmanuel College happens through the Emmanuel College Music Society (ECMS). From large orchestral concerts to solo recitals, from barbershop with the chorus to jazz evenings, ECMS gives a chance for all Emmanuel students to enjoy a wide range of different types of music within college, and for musicians of all standards to have fun while making music with their friends.

Emmanuel College Music Society seeks to create an environment where all members of Emmanuel College, who wish to do so, can find a way to express themselves musically. Our main groups are the Emmanuel College Orchestra, the Emmanuel College Chorus, and the Emmanuel College Jazz Band.

For those who want to listen to some classical music, concerts include our Sunday evening recital series and the end of term concerts.

We also hold occasional informal concerts, where all members of the College are invited to perform shorter items to an audience of friends. The next concert of this type is likely to take place during Lent 2011, so if you are interested in playing, why not prepare a piece and get in touch with the committee?

Every year there is a Freshers' Concert in Michaelmas Term which allows the newest members of Emmanuel College to show off their musical talents in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. The next Freshers' Concert is likely to take place in October or November 2010.

Emmanuel College Music Society has a number of percussion instruments and non-percussion instruments available for hire including a double bass, timpani, a digital piano, and a drum kit. We are able to offer some of the cheapest instrument hire in Cambridge.

We hope you find this website useful. The site allows you to find out about Emmanuel College Music Society, sign up to our mailing lists, and also to find out about the events that ECMS is running this term.
